YES!! Finally!!

Swingers, Children of Men, Ghost World, Blood Diamond.

I usually get myself so amped to see a movie that someone tells me is “so me!” Then end up wondering why anyone would think I would like said movie. So hearing over and over again how “me” swingers is made me pretty skeptical from the beginning. It was generally obnoxious, and I loved every minute of it.

Children of Men was a crazy surprise. Never even heard of this movie but found it randomly on netflix tucked in a little cubby and ordered it. and very glad I did so. While it mimicked all the movies about the end of the world, for the most part, the content seemed very original.  Beautifully filmed.

And while I do not like any prepubescent drama about the struggles of high school/college life, Ghost World had substance I could pull from. Good ending. but not really one of my favorites.

oh, and I watched We Were Soldiers for the first time. pretty graphic but in general one of the better movies I’ve seen. I’ve come to find out I really love war-related movies.

BLOOD DIAMOND. I loved this movie. I’d passed it in Blockbuster 58 times and thought it looked rediculous but little boys called baby killer carrying round AKs was crazy. somehow, everyone needs to watch this movie.

my heart and my mind feel like they are going to explode. God has shown me so much in one day.

and to be honest, I don’t think I like what He has shown me.

  • Mike: this eclipse doesn't fully black out the moon does it?
  • Me: No, not really. The sun is like, really bright.
  • Mike: thank you brandi.

New movie selections:

When Nitchze Wept, Atonement, Naked, Sideways, Garden State for the first time, Dogma, Storytelling, The Good Girl. All are worth watching. When Nitchze wept and Atonement were amazing, in my opinion. Garden State was so hyped up and also so lackluster. I had hyped Sideways up to myself so much and thought it was to have a sort of charisma on its own but in fact it was nowhere close to as engaging as I thought it would have been. Trumped Garden State in the Thompkins household though. I’m in love with Paul Giamatti and Kevin Smith so bad. I’m basically in love with chubby bearded men.

Started to watch Peeping Tom but I cannot get into it.

I really miss when Ben Affleck was good.

Weekly Surge

Weekly Surge is an entertainment, news, and lifestyle alt-weekly local 20 - 30 somethings magazine.

They have graciously allowed me to write a celeb gossip column for them that I am so excited about, but my staying power is solely limited to it’s readers. So go and check it out in the following week and let them know what you think!!

NOTE:

Brandi Thompkins is officially on a diet. A real one. if anyone sees me with a piece of candy, or any sort of junk food to my face, you have free reign to hit me in the jaw. Break it, even. It might help. Beer is included in junk food. If I get to my goal weight after two years of being fat and happy, then i will walk around naked. everywhere.

Spending 70 percent of your time trying to make someone be as happy as you and the other 30 percent being angry because they refuse to is not exactly the “best” way to live your life.

  • so I watched The Patriot for the first time this weekend
  • Brandi: So this is about what war?
  • Mike: The Revolutionary War. America was fighting against Britain.
  • Brandi: ....(pause)Did America win this one?
  • Mike: ....
  • Brandi: oh obviously so.
  • Mike: wow.
